Wedding fever
Daily Life April 4th, 2008Busy as a bee on steroids, that’s my status. Busy about everything and nothing. I am so ready for a long vaccation and my mind and body agrees with me.
:::Back to wedding planning:::
Not our wedding for the nth time, but the wedding of my brother in law. They live outside Oslo and so I stepped in as the coordinator along with my two sister in laws. They fixed the catering and helped me do some purchases and plan out the concept. There was no specific theme, but the motif was silver and hot pink. Kind of a twist between modern and baroque style.
The days leading to the wedding and the wedding itself drained me, so basically I didn’t have an easter vacation as far as rest is concerned but it was fun though and I am just happy that they had a blast on their wedding day and that they liked what we made for them.
So I assumed the role of coordinator, planner, flower decorator (centrepieces, couple’s area and flowergirl’s boquet), photographer, cake designer and decorator and even managed to dance the night away and subsequently clenaed and tidy the place that day as well as the night before celebration (henna evening). The three last weekends we didn’t spend at home and that’s partly of why I have been so absent in the internet realm.
So here is the result of the wedding work:
-Pictorial-
It was so difficult with the pictorial. First of all I was exhausted so I was very little creative. I was dragged from rushing decorating the hall to going to where they stayed to take pictures. Then it was freezing cold. This March day was almost tiwce as cold as any winter day from December to February. It even reached as much as negative 16 that night. I could barely hold the camera and poor Hilde who had to wear a blanket in between shoots.

I ordered this as a canvas as a surprise for the couple (crossing fingert that they are not reading this
). They had an easter sale so I upgraded it a size.

I made a mistake on the date, but it’s already corrected. Later that evening I took over the Canon 30 d my friend (supposed to be the photographer for the night, but his freind was rushed to ER so he stepped out early). I noticed a big difference in the focus. It was so much faster than what I had. Now I really want to upgrade to Nikon D300. I struggled a bit with the menu and buttons. I was used to Nikon’s functionality.
-The decorations-

Probably the piece I was most satisfied with. I bought a candelabra and cut an oasis sponge, soaked it in water and just inserted it right smack in the middle of the candelabra. I used ranuncula, two toned carnations and roses and some big green shiny leaves I folded in the sides and secured with aluminium thread in matching colors. I also used green hydrangea (if you are from Oslo and love flowers I recommend passiflora at skovveien. they have such wonderful blooms, never seen green hydrangea in my life and I fell in love with them.) and I also cut a bundle of string of hearts/hjerteranke and fastened it on the bottom part of the candelabra.
My husbands niece, one of the flowergirls holding an arrangement I made the day before with hydrangea and thet green shiny leave again folded in the corner to hold the flowers. I tied it up with flowertape. She got the smallest boquet since she was the baby of them all.

I We had bought the centrepiece candleholder on sale for 20 kroner a piece at Kremmerhuset and we were lucky they had enough. I bought pink candles and various flowers and fillers. In the middle, I had small craft boxes I painted in pink, put some soil and three rosebuds and inserted flowersticks in the middle with the tablenumber attached. I used a CRD freebie to decorate the edges with on the tablenumber and printed it on fine carton paper. Glued the edges with scrapbooking roller glue.
I don’t really have a nice shot of the table decors since I was short on time, and I had borrowed some images from other’s camera too, but my favorite piece which was a bit expensive, are the table napkins. The silver one is embossed with a baroque print and looked so nice with the bright pink smaller ones on top. I guess a fan design would made it nicer, but we simply didn’t have enough time.
For Glo; the font is rennessaince and you there’s also a nice font called easy street almost the same, but more fancy and curly. I found these fonts when I was looking for cake toppers (similar to the one you made so nicely!).

The table of the couple taken the day before and not completely finished. I bought two umbrellaholders for the terrace and two poles which I painted silver and sprayed with silver glitter paint. Bought another piece of wood for the upper pole to hold the textile. I use silver aluminum thread to secure the orchids and also made some silver threads with prisms in different sizes and lengths with pink pearl beads as dividers between the prisms (they are not so obvious in these pics). Finished it off with ivy and cream ceramic hearts. The flowergirls’ flowers on the bottom of first picture.
-The cake table-

`
The caketable. I had two cylindervase with some synthetic long twigs with flowers and real orchids, both from Ikea. After picture number two was taekn, I had put some color in the water too and metal confetti hearts. I also let some silver threads with prisms hang from the branches and some tealight holders.
Me and my sister in laws agreed to try to have a unique cake in the form of baklawa (middle eastern pastry treats), so I spoke with a baklawa/ cakeshop in Oslo to help us with attaching the baklawa to the cake (since they have extra syrup in the shop to make it stick, plus we wouldn’t have time to assemble it. We also borrowed the cake stand from them. I researched in the internet and found this lady who sold cakes and cake flower creations so I designed some flower ensemble for her to make. The day of the wedding I got trouble making the upper part. I had bought both fondant and almondtop/marsipanlokk that I was going to cover the upper box with, but it kept breaking because of the hard edges of the box, so I was painting the box a couple of hours before the guest arrived. I glued on the ribbon, but had problem with the glue. I secured and tightened the ribbon below with staple gun in the end, but didn’t have time to do the same on the top ribbon.
-Not the typical kurdish wedding-
…with catering

The food was great. Not really a catering firm, but we know someone who knows them who convinced to cater for us with staffs included. Too bad they didn’t have these catering equipment to keep the food warm for a longer time.
Catering is not so common in kurdish wedding as well. Usually they get a take away container with a piece of chicken, some greens and rice, so this was a pleasant surprise for the guests.
Tableplacements are not common in kurdish wedding, but we decided to be a bit unique. I bought a paintable surface poster (for lack of better name for it) and black paint and with a thick silver pen, I wrote the names on it. I also glued on some nice metal leaves (that I could consider paper scrapping with. They were so nice. The details is not obvious in the picture). The bride being an artist had an easel I could display it on. The stuffed hearts is the bride’s creation.
-The dresses-

All created by Helan (2nd from left) in a span of 3 weeks before wedding. She made one more besides from these. I loved my dress although I looked a bit lumpy on it. I gained aroud 5 kg in the last 2 years or something.

Henna evening the night before. Dress also made by Helan. I got to wear my golden world wrestling federation belt, lol.
:::I am a bit bored:::
No mojo for scrapping and just lots to do, but so slow doing them. Doing nothing and everything. Being ineefective. Most of all I miss my friends. Seing them in person. Going outside and sitting fown for dinner or coffee. I miss my homeland. I miss a real vacation where we’ll have a real blast. We’ll soon go to Canada. I am excited to see Wanda there and Bizzi’s relative and hopefully go to New York and also meet Glo.
I also am so unsure of what i really want in life. I am definitely craving to take a course in photography. They have this one semester thing. It’s just so incredibly tempting. BUT we are supposed to buy a house in summer next year (hence no big splurging vacation for us next year, and no Philippines, sigh) and we have to buy furnitures and stuff. Although I am really excited when it comes to getting a home and starting a home for me and my hubby and also decorating the place.
I have still a lot of goals to reach and plans to do. One of them involves going to the gym and eating healthy. I have started having a healthy lunch in the canteen every working day and also minimized my sweet food consumption. Of course part of the reason is preparing my body to try to have a baby not too long from now.
:::Digiscrap:::
Since last time I blogged, I made a lot of LO’s in a short span of time and then it slowed down to 2 LO’s in a two month period. I haven’t shared in a while so here’s quite a few. You can find the credits here.

I also got to create an article in the great e-zine of scrappinmoms.net. You can find my article on scrappin’ with black and white pics here.
Another news is that i have been invited as guest CT for a designer i really love. I just have to find my mojo and enough time before I start my stint as guest CT.
:::Tired:::
So I’ll end this post. There has been stuff that I would have blogged about, but it’s been a while so I’ll just let it be. And if you know me, I’ll blog about every little thing so it’s not that interesting actually. I can smell summer and I am sooo looking forward to it. Mom and dad is comin too and staying for 3 months or so and we’re off to Canada as well.
No pictures of Samuel to share lately. He’s becoming more handsome and bubbly for each day. He still has to learn how to walk and speak though but he makes my heart melt and put a smile on my face each time I come home. I love to look at him sleep. His mom calls me tita kulit cause I always end up waking him though, lol.
Tomorrow and sunday work again. Deadlines, deadlines. No wonder i am yearning for a break now! Btw, I am not a real songlistener lately, but “No Air” clings to my brain lately. So emote song! Thta’s it. Tada. Till next blog post in a millenium, lol.
PS. Sorry, I haven’t been able to reply to texts, mails or comments lately. I have been a dork lately and negligent on my friends. You know I love you all right
